This was going to be a two weeks cruise in the Mediterranean aboard the Wind Surf, a motorized sailing ship. We were going to board in Nice, France. However, using frequent flyer miles on United Airlines meant a lay-over in London. We stayed two nights at the Heathrow Hilton near the airport and took the "tube" into town for some sightseeing on our lay-over day. We had heard about the "London Walks" (our daughter had done one a couple a few weeks earlier) so we decided to do the Charles Dicken's adventure.

When we arrived in Nice and checked into our hotel, we had a full day to explore the old town and the large beach boulevard. Notice the white dot; it is Sharon waiving to the crowd below from our hotel balcony.

Cote d'Azur (coast of blue sky) is an appropriate name for this part of the Riviera. The beaches, however, are not not exactly made up of fine sand and can be a bit hard on the back.

We found our ship docked in the harbor waiting for us. This five masted sailing/motor ship, the Wind Surf, would be our home for the next two weeks.

As we walked along the cay, we saw a large tri-maran, up-side-down, being towed into the harbor. It was a sixty foot racing boat that had capsized at sea the day before. That must have been one heck of a ride for the crew, but what were they going to do now? Later we watched as a large crane turned the thing right side up. It was a sight to see.

At about two o'clock it was time to board the Wind Surf. While waiting, we already made friends with people from California and England. Once aboard we had to explore our new abode. Then we set sail for Saint Tropez.
