Our last Italian port was the little gem Portofino. This well known, former fishing village is again a major tourist attraction. It is small with a beautiful harbor lined with colorful buildings that house restaurants and exclusive shops. Surrounding the village are expensive villas and a small castle on top of a hill.

A couple hours of exploring Portofino was enough. Sharon had the start of a cold and decided to go back to the ship to rest. I wanted to see more. About three miles east of Portofino is another harbor town.

I took a local bus to get there and found the experience very interesting. The town and harbor were larger, more cosmopolitan, but the buildings are equally attractive in their pastel colors.

Instead of taking the bus back, I decided to walk. The first part had a nice walkway right along the shore next to the road. There were a couple rocky beach areas and, after rounding a bend, a view of the Wind Surf at anchor.

I followed a path through a wooded area that took me back to Portofino. Then it was a quick ride on the tender to find out how Sharon was doing on the ship. The rest had done her good and she was ready to party some more. Alas, this was our last day and tomorrow we had to go home.

But hold on, there is more! When the Wind Surf pulled into the port of Nice at seven in the morning we had to disembark early. Yet our flight did not leave until about 3:00 pm. What to do for those seven hours with suitcases full of dirty clothes and souvenirs?
