For Jay's 71st birthday we decided to go back to the Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley for a couple days. We couldn't have picked better weather during this first week in March 2008.
If you are a golfer and never played the course, you should come here and drool. The fairways are like most greens that I remember, and the greens are like your favorite putting carpet at home. It is a real classy place. Starting times are kept with this man size watch, the driving range is like no other (free balls, of course), and the tees are marked with not just round balls or cubes, but quails.
The back nine has lots of water, but the fairways are generally wide.
Some of the sand traps are challenging, others simply nice to look at in spring. Other hazards include some fowl; however, they tend to stay in the rough. Stangely enough, we didn't see any quail.
Even if your game is off, you cannot get too frustrated when you look around you.
