California Coast

North Coast

This B&B, in Gualala, is most certainly a unique place to spend a couple days to relax and enjoy the north coast. The rooms are all designed to provide a view of the ocean and beach below, with lots of privacy and a romantic atmosphere par excellent. Most have a deck and some a spa or sauna and/or fireplace. The owners have not held back on the decor; the furnishings are all different and tasteful. For us it was a welcome retreat.

A nicely landscaped pathway leads from the parking area to the front door. The lobby is large and inviting. Right away you notice the picture windows next to the fireplace. A separate building has a sitting area with central fireplace and comfortable chase lounges and stuffed couches to read or just look out over the ocean and try to spot a whale spout. The inn is on a bluff about eighty feet above the beach and the view is towards the south.

We had made reservations for the "Showcase" room. However, when we arrived, we were given an upgrade to the "Pacifica" suite. This turned out to be the best room at the inn. It was large with a picture window, fireplace, spa and a balcony. We were treated with a bottle of champagne and a small cake for Valentine's Day.

There was a stack of guest books with notations by various visitors, including the one to the left by Lucile Ball, dated 5-1-89.

After dinner we had to try out the spa and bubble bath.

Notice the black object on the edge near Sharon. Instead of a rubber ducky, we had two rubber whales to play with.

The following morning breakfast was delivered to our room in a basket: Eggs-Benedict, apple crumb bake, filled pastries, juice and coffee. Sharon couldn't finish hers and I am still trying to loose the pounds I gained.

We saw a couple of the other rooms and decided which one to try next time we are here. There is one more important feature about this place. It has a stairway to the beach and a hidden waterfall along the way. But you will have to continue below to see this. By the way, I am just suggesting that this is a great place for a romantic or relaxing getaway; but, please don't go when we want to do this again.
