To Main Page To California Coast To Tomales Bay

From Dillon Beach, at the mouth of Tomales Bay, we continued our trip up north. A windy road through dairy country (with the long name of Valley Ford Franklin School Road) brought us back to highway one and from there it was a short drive to Bodega Bay. This is the place where Alfred Hitchcock filmed his 'The Birds', a thriller from the 1960s. We decided to stay overnight at the Bodega Bay Lodge.

Our room was at the end of this row and had a nice view over the marsh and ocean in the distance. Most units have a fireplace which was nice in the evening because it was still cold at night. But that did not deter me from using the spa after we had dinner in the Duck Club Restaurant. All and all it was a nice place to stay.

The following morning we decided to take a walk to the beach. There is a trail that goes around to the right of the lodge and the sign indicated that we should see some birds. Besides a dove we did see a couple egrets and a blue heron feeding together in a pond or ditch.

Then it was time to take a hike along the beach. Being that it was February and on a Thursday, we were the only ones there. When we returned to the lodge it was time to leave. So, after some more scenery along highway one, we returned home via the Russian River.
