October is a good month to visit Halfmoon Bay. It is pumpkin time and the town is well known for it's festival and the big pumpkin selection from all over the US. Entries come from Ohio and other states to vie for the biggest and best. We came a week or so later during the week when the crowds were gone but the atmosphere still lingered.

Halfmoon Bay is a beach town along the Pacific Coast. As the name implies, it is along a crescent shaped bay with very mild climate conditions that lend themselves to growing all sorts of vegetables and flowers. We elected to go there when we had a couple days of great sunshine and very few visitors.

There are numerous shops, many of which are quite unique for this small town. So, shopping is in order. I bought a cookbook that Sharon carried for me. But this time Sharon did not indulge and we just looked.

A rather unusual shop is at one corner where you can browse for pottery, Halloween costumes or antiques. It is always fun to see what is 'new' (like this three foot square 'portable' backgammon box.

Sharon's favorite purchase in Halfmoon Bay were these glass pumpkins. Then, before going home we stopped at one of the farms for some fresh produce. Here we bought some fresh peas and corn that the farmer had just picked. At five for a dollar it was a lot better than in our grocery store.
