This was a special trip for Sharon's 70th birthday. We had invited our two daughters, sons-in-law and our six grandkids to spend a week in Hawaii to celebrate the big event. It was during Thanksgivings week and the kids had time off from school.
We had rented three condos, but before the families arrived we spent a couple extra days there to get organized and relax. It was agreed to stay at the same condo units we had used a few years earlier because it was a great place for the kids and adults to have fun and bond again.

We had decided to have a one-bedroom unit for the two of us and rented two units with two-bedrooms for the 'kids'. As it turned out we really liked our unit. It had a great view from the balcony as well as our bed-room. Soon it became a 'gathering place'. But now I am ahead of it all.

The two pictures above were taken from our balcony looking north-east and towards the south. It was also a nice place to have coffee in the morning or a sandwich for lunch, and feed the little birds.

It was the end of November and we did not expect real warm days, but aside from the wind and a few clouds, the days were quite pleasant. Morning strolls were in order.

The beach was narrow right in front of the condos but became wider to the north. A golf course ran along this stretch of beach and sometimes you could walk for a couple miles without seeing another soul.

At low tide we could walk along the corral reef for some beach combing. The surf was dangerous for swimming, however the kids had fun on the grass in front. The beach is actually right behind the bushes you see to the left.

The condos are right next to the hotel and resort and we were able to use the three pools and spas. The 'beach pool' had a water slide which was fun for the kids (including Jay).

Our days would start with some spectacular sunrises. After breakfast and a walk along the beach we would join our family and explore the island. We spent time going to different beaches, visited a coffee plantation, did the 'dirt shirt' factory visit and had fun in the evenings together. Besides part 2 of this series, there are also pages with more details in our special family section. But let me show you some more sunrises first. They became more interesting as the week went on.
