Our annual trek to the Lair of the Bear is during 'the third week'. This time it was during the last week of June. It was hot the first few days. Then, all of a sudden we had some rain for an hour or so, after which it turned very nice and sunny the rest of the week. |

The hammock is always a big hit with the kids and adults alike. Here we find Emily with five of her friends. They are all cute young ladies so I had to take some close ups. |

In addition to volleyball, there are lots of activities at the Lair. Tennis, a large swimming pool, basketball, and table tennis are but a few we all enjoyed. Sandra and the kids created several clay pots and made shirts with 'tie-dye'. |

The Kub Korral was Ava's favorite playground. There is a tall slide and lots of sand and toys. |

The staff prepares three meals a day. It is not gourmet, but fresh and filling. The menu varies from day to day and this Monday we had Mexican enchiladas, rice and beans with salad. It was Brennen's birthday so a big cake appeared from the kitchen to be shared with anyone who wanted some. |

Besides grandma clowning around a bit, we found Troy and Ava near the tent having a good time with the drink cartons |

Sharon and I have hiked around the lake a few times in the past. There is a nice flat trail that starts along the south side, then climbs a bit with good views from the granite boulders. and crosses a creek and dam along the north side. Total distance is a little over three miles. We had brought a lunch, so we could spend as much time as we wanted. |

At the end of the lake where the creek flows from the higher elevations, we found Susan and Troy fishing with Brennen and Ava. Troy is an avid fly fisherman and was out here several times during the week. All three of them were catching lots of trout. |

It was Brennen's birthday. He had turned six years old when he caught this big one himself. He was proud and happy and the fish would be saved for dinner. |

They all caught a few fish as keepers but released most back into the stream. "Come on Dad, you try it," came the reply from Susan. So I gave it a few minutes casting but never got the fly where I wanted it and no fish. I soon gave up when the line got totally wrapped around the pole. Fishing has never been to my liking. Sure I have caught a few when backpacking many years ago, but to go out and 'fish' for fun is not in the books for me. I would rather take a dip in the icy cold water and cool off scaring the fish with my white body.
