One of my hobbies (for the last forty years) has been
to make furniture and other wooden items for the house, family and friends.
It started shortly after we were
married and we needed some end-tables and a coffee-table. Using a Shopsmith power tool, I cut pine and plywood, glued the pieces together
and stood back to admire. The units were crude but with some
"antiquing" paint, the three pieces served their purpose for a
few years.
Since then I have designed and made all sorts of
tables, toys, tool sheds, etc. for ourselves, children, friends and
neighbors. To the left you can click on some buttons to see examples and
pictures. The latest addition is a two foot model of a trebuchet or
medieval catapult.
When
I start a new project, I always need to make some sketches and then
detailed drawings. I have a couple note books full of them. Here are
two pages selected at random.

Some Decorating
Ideas:
Trim molding on walls, ceilings and around door frames
is another way to improve the appearance of your home. Using special wood profiles for wainscot
and "picture framing" is one way to enhance the appearance of
entries and room decor. For some ideas click here. |
Making
Frames and Matting Pictures:
A nice print often deserves a nice mat. Frames can vary from simple to ornate, but usually are best when kept narrow and not too fancy. But matting gives the display "pashas". Have a look at some examples and the procedures I have used to create
mats with some
unique displays. Click here |
Some Cooking
Ideas:
This not a cooking web site, but I would like to point out a few
unusual
things that can happen in a kitchen. Do you grow tomatoes and have too
many in the middle of the summer? Here is one way to make tomato sauce.
Making your own pasta noodles can be fun for a change. How about figs?
Some people hate them, others love them. Did you know they are really a
flower? Let me show you.
