One of my hobbies (since about 1968) has been
to make furniture and other wooden items for the house, family and friends.
It started shortly after we were
married and we needed some end-tables and a coffee-table. Using a Shopsmith power tool, I cut pine and plywood, glued the pieces together
and stood back to admire. The units were crude but with some
'antiquing' paint, the three pieces served their purpose for a
few years.
Since then I have designed and made all sorts of
tables, toys, tool sheds, etc. for ourselves, children, friends and
neighbors. To the left you can click on some buttons to see examples and
pictures. There are models of windmills, trains and a trebuchet (a medieval catapult). I had a go with parquetry and made a table top for my office using several layers of different kinds of wood veneer.
In 2009 I found an article in Wood magazine about making a wooden bud-vase. I didn't quite like the approach and modified the design several times and made some models until I was satisfied with the final result. It is the section 'Fun Stuff'.
When
I start a new project, I always need to make some sketches and then
detailed drawings. I have a couple note books full of them. Here are
two pages selected at random.
