Armstrong Redwood Park

There is a nice redwood forest just north of the Russian River near Guerneville. The park has a pristine redwood grove that is readily accessible for an easy walk. It also has some steep hiking trails for those who want more strenuous exercise. We decided to just stroll the lower trails.

Some of these giants are over a thousand years old and reach heights of more than 300 feet.

The tendency is to look up. Yet, down at our feet were scattered patches of sorrel, ferns and moss.

It was very quiet and we were the only ones here. In the semi dark our imagination got the best of us. We started to see weird creatures amongst the fallen trees. It was a bit spooky.

It was time to leave, have some lunch and no more wine for the afternoon. So we drove to Healdsburg, a town that has become very popular with the wine tourists. After a sandwich and some shopping around the central square, we continued our drive to Calistoga, the geyser town. We have been there before and had the mud bath treatment that is the main attraction. Then it was back to the hotel for a dip in the spa and a bit of relaxation.
