Yosemite

Winter High Country
April and May are the best months to see the spectacle of the major waterfalls at (or near) the valley floor. When the snow melts at the higher elevations the falls and rivers are at their fullest. Nevada and Vernal Falls thunder down the cliffs creating spray and rainbows on sunny days. "Mist Trail" is a good name for the Vernal Falls hike.

Tenaya Creek fills Mirror Lake, a flat spot that looks more like a meadow in the summer.

Yosemite Falls can best be appreciated this time of year.

A steep trail leads to the top but, at about 1300 feet above the valley, a small path takes one to "Oh-my-Gosh-Rock". It is a slender spot with views of all three sections of the falls, a panoramic view of the bridge below, and the sheer walls of Glacier Point across the valley.

Several streams join the Merced River as it meanders through the valley.

Dogwood blooms all around us as we watch deer grazing in the meadows until dusk.
