Wooden toys have always had an attraction to boys especially. I have made several but don't have too many pictures. They included a red-wagon made with oak slats, a train sets, and the few shown here. The centipede with eight wheels and three swivel joints was one of my favorites. It is about fourteen inches long.

As the grandkids grew, so did the toys. Here is a rocking horse made by laminating half inch thick oak for extra strength.  For the rowboat rocker also was mostly oak with the runners birch, stained dark for contrast. It has cleats so the boat can be tied to the dock and a bucket of worms in case my grandson wants to go fishing.

For Christmas time the stall of Bethlehem. This was a study in compound shapes using seven different kinds of wood. It had eighteen pieces and is quite a puzzle to put together.  Only the base is rectangular. Every piece is held in place with sliding dovetail joints or dowels. For example, the walnut star holds the three-part back wall together. There are no screws nor nails, but the whole piece can be taken apart.
